What if your biggest leadership blind spot was … you?

What You Don’t See About Yourself Could Be Holding You Back

As the year comes to a close, I’ve been having conversations with leaders who are reflecting on what went well and what could be better next year.

And here’s something I keep hearing:

“I know what my team needs to do differently… but I’m not sure what I need to do differently.”

That’s the truth most leaders don’t talk about: sometimes the biggest thing holding us back isn’t effort, or strategy, or skill.

It’s what we don’t see about ourselves.

Every leader has blind spots.

They live in the space between how we see ourselves and how others experience us.

You might think you’re being clear about your vision, but your team feels confused.

You might see yourself as approachable, but others hesitate to speak up.

You might think you’re empowering, but come across as controlling.

It’s not necessarily because you’re doing something wrong (you could be, of course), but mostly because your team’s experience of you is in your blind spot, and you don’t know how your best intentions show up and impact people around you.

That’s why self-awareness isn’t just another leadership buzzword.

It’s the starting point for better conversations, better teams, and better results.

When you start to see yourself clearly, you lead differently because you choose to act differently.

You listen more openly.

You communicate with empathy and presence.

And your team feels safer, stronger, and more aligned.

That’s the work we do at Great People Management: we help leaders turn self-awareness into real change through Leadership DNA and CheckPoint 360™.

These tools help you understand your impact, uncover blind spots, and develop the clarity to lead with purpose.

So as you prepare for 2026, ask yourself:

• How do people really experience my leadership?

• What might I be missing about the way I lead?

• And what could change if I saw myself the way my team does?

The moment you see yourself clearly, everything else starts to change.
